Almajiri: Quran Never Said Children Should Fend For Themselves – Emir Sanusi

Muhammed Sanusi Lamido, Emir of Kano, has said it is not written in the Quran and Hadith that children should fend for themselves.

Lamido stated this while speaking on the menace of almajiris in the north, saying they are victims of neglect by parents.

He charged scholars to devise ways to overcome the challenges of almajiri in the north

The Emir, who represented Sultan of Sokoto, Mohammad Saad Abubakar III, stated this when 100 individuals and Non-Governmental Organisations were honoured by Islamic Education Trust for the roles they played in ensuring peaceful coexistence in the country in Minna at the weekend.

He said the parents of the Almajiris will render account of their actions here on earth before Allah, and therefore called on Islamic Scholars in the North to come up with strategies on how to overcome the menace in the region

“I challenge anybody to come up where in the Quran or Hadith where it was written that a child should fend for himself”, he said.

Lamido noted that to address the phenomenon, it entails holistic approach that will narrow the  distance between the children and education.

He also emphasized the need for educational curriculum in Nigeria to be expanded  to recognise Igbo, Hausa,Yoruba and Arabic languages in schools, to teach Science and Technological related subjects as other countries had done long ago with their major languages.

The Emir also called on the scholars not to leave out people at the grassroots, noting that they can maximally benefit from the use of science and technology in their affairs, especially in farming.

According to him, the northern part of the country is blessed with human and natural resources, and have no reason for its people to live in poverty if the comparative advantages were considered.

YORUBA BEWARE OF 1967 MISTAKE MADE BY CHIEF

YORUBA BEWARE OF 1967 MISTAKE MADE BY CHIEF OBAFEMI AWOLOWO. Awolowo was released from Calabar prison by Biafran leader Odumegwu Ojukwu and there was an agreement that while Ojukwu declares Biafra in the East July 1967, Awolowo would declare Oduduwa Republic in the West. The British establishment, sensing the dangers of Awolowo declaring Oduduwa Republic in the West, convinced Gowon and the north to checkmate Awolowo’s secessionist agenda by appointing him the Vice Chairman of the Federal Executive Council. This strategy worked effectively and Awolowo was deceived that after Gowon’s tenure he would be given the opportunity of ruling Nigeria. Awolowo thus had to checkmate the Biafran dream to clear any obstacle to his ruling Nigeria while the north was looking for the right opportunity to throw him into the dustbin. In frustration, Awo resigned from Gowon’s cabinet when he realised he had been politically duped. Awolowo quashed the Biafran dream while the northern establishment killed t...
